TENDER FOR GAS RETORT At its meeting last night the City Council accepted the tender of West's Gas Improvement Companv Ltd., of Sydney, for the supply of the necessary materials for rebuilding the No. 2 vertical retort bed at Die gasworks at £4,665. As it was almost the last meeting of the present council, several councillors paid tributes to the employees who had contributed to the success of the trading departments. Or E. J. Smith said the acting librarian (Miss E. D. Bryant) had done particularly good work in spite of the difficult times.
