SUCCESSFUL ATTACK OFF NORWAY/ CARRIER-BORNE AIRCRAFT TAKE PART <ißec. 10.25 a.m.)"RUGBY, May 8. The Admiralty states: "Carrierborne aircraft of the Fleet Air Arm, escorted by ships of the Home Fleet, attacked two southbound enemy convoys off Kristiansund, Norway, in the early hours of last Saturday. " The attack was carried out byBarracuda aircraft operating under the protection of naval fighter aircraft, and preliminary reports state that, one large, heavily-laden supply ship waa hit by both bombs and torpedo, and it.;', broke in two. A similar attack w-as : carried out on a medium supply ship, which was seen to sink. . " Hits with two torpedoes and one ; bomb were also obtained on a .large'..', tanker. In addition, a direct hit with a bomb was scored on an enemy escort vessel and a small supply ship was damaged iby several near misses. " During the course of the action two enemy aircraft, which attempted to interfere, were shot down. Two '. naval aircraft were lost."
