CONVOY ATTACKED
FRENCH NAVAL FORCE IN ACTION SUPPLY SHIP AND ESCORT TORPEDOED (Rec. 10 a.m.) RUGBY, May,B. The Admiralty states: "While oa offensive patrol in the English Channel early this morning light coastal forces; manned by personnel of the French navy intercepted and successfully attacked a strongly-escorted enemy convoy. '' The attack was pressed home to close . range, and hits with torpedoes were obtained on one.of the supply ships and on an escort trawler, both of which are believed to have been sunk. Damage l was also inflicted on other enemy ships by gunfire. The French' force, which sustained no casualties and only superficial damage, returned safely to har* bour." =
