GENERAL LULL
HARRYING SEBASTDPOL FU6IIWES 90 EMY TRANSPORTS SUNK (Rec. 11.40 a.m.) LONDON, May 7. The Russians are gleefully counting the number of " Dunlkirk " evacuation ships trying to slip away from .Sebastopol which the Red air force and the Black Sea fleet are destroying, says a British United Press correspondent. Ninety enemy ships, totalling 115,000 tons have been sunk since the Crimea offensive began, and it is estimated that at least an equal number have been damaged. Renter's corrcspondest at Moscow reports a tremendous intensification ill the past 48 hours in the attacks against German convoys. Several ships have been sunk in Sebastopol harbour itself, and several escaping convoys dispersed, The Red air force light bombers are at [present specialising in smashing the powerful anti-aircraft defences around Sevastopol harbour. The correspondent adds that the laud lull continues, with the Germans still constantly probing the Stanis lawow region. This lull has resulted in an intensification of guerrilla activity, especially in the Carpathians, the Ukraine, and'White Russia. To-day's German communique states that the Russians in the Sebastopol area, supported, particularly on the northern sector, by very strong artillery fire and battle planes, continued their attacks, which were repulsed. Local penetrations worn sealed oil'.
