GALA DAY AT MOSGIEL

SOLDIERS' FUND There was variety of entertainment on the Recreation Ground at Mosgiot on Saturday afternoon when a gala day was held fox- the Soldiers’ Rehabilitation Fund, under the auspices of tho Mosgiel Municipal Band (O.M. Rilies), assisted by tho .local Businessmen’s Association. afternoon’s programme opened with a boys’ trolly race in Gox-don road, and a procession of children's decorated vehicles to the sports ground. The highlights of the afternoon were the fancy dress hockey mutch, a ladies’ football match, and a ladies’ pig driving competition. There were “ chocolate alley ” and other money-making devices—all going to make a highly-suc-cessful effort. A body of willing workers kept, the ball rolling merrily all afternoon, and the music of the band gave the occasion a festive air. ' Connor, T. McMillan, and A. Kennedy. The most amusing item of the afternoon was the hockey match. The fancy dresses of the men, and tho burlesque _of Ibe game caused roars of laughter while it was in progress. The women were dressed in footballers’ garb, and more ihan one bystander remarked that they had more athletic appearance than their male opponents. The game ended: Women 4 goals, Men 3 goals. Mrs Graham (second prizel, Miss 0. Jones, Miss H. White, and Miss B. Pickering. A short football match —Fourth Grade v. Past Players, was won by the lat tor. It was n good game.
