MOTOR IMPRESSMENTS
DISTRICT ADVISORY COMMITTEES PERSONNEL ANNOUNCED (P.A.) WELLINGTON, October I. The appointment of 14 of the District Advisory Committees which aro provided for in the Motor Vehicle Impressment Emergency Regulations, 1941, was announced to-night by the Minister of Transport. Mr 11. Semple, who pointed out that with the exception of the Auckland committees no representatives of the ancillary users were included As soon as nominations were received from the interested bodies, however, the nominees selected would be added to the committees. The Minister said that in the meantime the committees were being asked to make nominations for the positions of district controllers, so that the selections of motor vehicles for the Army, the E.P.S., and essential civil needs could he proceeded with. Mr Semple added that the appointments to the remaining 20 committees would be made within the next few days. The members of the committees ■were giving their services free, and would be carrying out a really essential work connected with defence in the event of an emergency. He said he knew he could rely on the motor vehicle owners throughout the country to assist these committees by giving any information desired.
South Island committees have been appointed as follows: Greymonth: Army representative, Captain A. R. Curtis; farmers’ representative, Mr J. Mnlcare; E.P.S. representative, Mr W. Green; transport representatives, Messrs Grconhill and J. M. Eadio, all of Greymonth. Waikari district: Army representative, Second-lie,utenant A. 1). Costello; farmers’ representative, Mr 0. T. Evans (Hawarden); E.P.S. representative, Mr S. R. Boon (Waikari) ; transport representatives, Messrs W. V. Mockett (Culverden, and W. Prendeville (Hawarden). Darfield district; Army representative, Lieutenant L. Harris; farmers’ representative, Mr G. C. Warren (Darfield) ; E.P.S. representative, Mr H. C. Townshend (Darfield) ; transport representatives, Messrs J. E. Frew (Greendale) and C. Stuart (Coalgate). Dunedin district: Army representative, W.O. (Tl) Iv. S. Brown; farmers’ representative, Mr A. C. Leary; E.P.S. representative, Mr H. H. Henderson; transport representatives, Messrs W. J. Winofield and F. Goodwin, all of Dunedin. Balclutha district: Army representative, Captain T. E. Green; farmers’ representative, Mr J. A. Johnston (Balclntha); E.P.S. representative, Mr H. H. Lyall (Balclutha); transport representatives, Messrs J. Pringle (Milton) and J. W. J. Wilson (Balclutha).
