SHOP ASSISTANTS
DEMAND FOR FIVE-DAY WEEK PROCEEDINGS ALLEGED IMPROPERLY TAKEN (P.A.) WELLINGTON, Oct. 1. The New Zealand shop, assistants’ dispute was adjourned to-day on a point of order raised in the Conciliation Council by the employers that the union had not complied with section 103 of the I.C. and A. Act in regard to advice to the individual members of the union of a meeting to discuss the proposed establishment of a dispute. The workers are seeking considerably increased wages, a five-day week with no work on Saturdays, and a wide reclassification of workers. It was stated by the employers that there were many names on the list of parties which had known nothing of the proceedings until they received their citations.
