SMALL COASTER OVERDUE
CONCERN OVER NON-ARRIVAL (P,A.) NEW PLYMOUTH, Oct. 1. Concern is felt for the safety of the South Taranaki. Shipping Company’s motor vessel Foxton, which is considerably overdue at Patoa. The vessel was due at Patoa from Wellington between 5 and 6 on Tuesday, but she had not berthed at Patea at a late hour to-night. The Foxton has a crew of 10, and the master is Captain G. A. Williams. The Foxton left Wellington on Monday night for Patea. When she did not arrive steps Were taken to ascertain her whereabouts, planes travellihg along the coast and snipping on the same course being asked to keep a lookout for the ship, which possesses a receiving wireless set, but not a transmitter. “ We have had no word of the ship, which is definitely overdue,” said the secretary of the shipping company, Mr G, Corbett. He did not disguise that there was some concern at the vessel’s non-arrival; but_ he pointed out that other ships working the port had been known to be overdue as the result of a minor breakdown and the need for taking shelter. [The Foxton is a vessel of 224 tons, and has paid occasional visits to this port.]
