RAIN IN WELLINGTON
SURFACE FLOODING IN HUTT VALLEY (P.A.) WELLINGTON, October 2. Heavy rain fell in Wellington all last night, l.CSin being recorded to 9 a.m. The rain has continued since. There is a large amount of surface water in the Hutt Valley, and the river is rising, but serious flooding is not anticipated, as the rain in the upper reaches has apparently eased off. The only road damage so far reported is a slip on the hill road over Paekakariki, blocking this old highway. There is extensive surface flooding in Tawa Flat and Porirua.
