Blinks was an ill-natured employer—one of those garrulous old dogs whose barks are worse than their bites. Sliuker was one of his clerks who was always half an hour late for business and received a daily ragging in consequence. A friend said to him one day; “Why don’t you got in to time ami save yourself a row.” “ That’s all you know.” replied Sliuker, “ I save myself one by being iate, for those who get in to lime have two rows at least before I arrive.”
