PORT CHALMERS AFFAIRS
Several matters pertaining to the development of the amenities of Port Chalmers were discussed at a meeting of the Port Chalmers Reserves Preservation Committee, amongst which were tree planting and the proposed Government housing scheme. The committee had made a personal canvass of owners of suitable building sites, and received an excellent response, resulting in 36 sections being made available. These properties, together with the owner’s names, will be forwarded to the Borough Coo ncil It was also decided to write to the Waterside Workers’ Union pointing out the aims and objects of the committee, and requesting the appointing of two of its members to act on the committee. Tree planting was fully discussed, and it was decided to write to the Otago Harbour Beard requesting permission to plant suitable trees along tbc southern retaining wail at Mussel Bay. Through the generosity of one of its members, 300 native trees were offered and accepted by the committee for this purpose.
