SOUTH OTAGO NOTES
[From Our Correspondent! THE HOLIDAY. 'Easier passed off quietly ill Balclutlia. The weather on Friday and Saturday was all that could be desired, but Sunday and Monday were very cold, while heavy rain made conditions anything but pleasant. There wore a goodly number of visitors at Kaka Point, but campers had a bad time. There wore no, attractions locally, and the only gathering of importance waa tho- Otago-&outhland Bible Class camp. Quite a number visited Christchurch for the races, while there was a fairly heavy exodus of residents to Dunedin and elsewhere. CLUTHA SCOTTISH SOCIETY. There was a very satisfactory attendance at the annqal meeting’ of the Clutha Scottish Society. The new officers elected were: Chief, Mr A. E. Paterson; senior chieftain, Mr F. Robertson; junior chieftain, Mr G. M'Donald; secretary, Mr J. Smaill; coun-cil—-Messrs G. Stewart, J. Copland, P. Dow, It. MTverrow, F. Aitken, Mesdames F. Robertson, J. Sinclair, P. M'Grcgor, F. Stark. The newly«-elected officers were duly installed and returned thanks. Votes of thanks were accorded the retiring chief, Mr G. Stewart, and all who had assisted the society during the past year. The balance sheet .showed a satisfactory credit, while the membership gives indications of exceeding that of last year. Following the annual- meeting a short programme was presented. BIBLE CLASS CAMP. About 130 boys from Otago and Southland Methodist Bible classes attended the Easter camp held in the South Otago .High School buildings, Balclutha. The Rev. Gordon Parker (Milton) was camp commandant, and assisting him were the Revs. Bowery (Dunedin) and G. Hoskin (Invercargill) as registrars; tho Rev. Mr M‘Arthur (in charge of the commissariat), and Messrs E. M'Farlane and L. Hayward (ser-geant-majors). Mr J. Hinewood had charge of.the canteen. The Rev. R. E. Fordyce (Balclutha) was camp host. RED CROSS SOCIETY. There was a good attendance at the annual meeting of the Kaitangata Red Gross Society. New, officers are: —-President, Mrs_ N. Urquhart; vice-presidents, Mrs R. Aitchison and Miss Blackie; secretary, Miss A.' Aitchison; treasurer, Miss F. Macdonald ; committee—Mesdames Hadler, M'Lean, MTntosh, Henderson, M'Auley, Scott, Pennell, Holden, Probble, and Miss Myers. The balance sheet showed receipts to be £6O 10s - 6d and expenditure £53 5s sd. DRAMA CLUB. The annua! report of the Kaitangata Drama Club stated that last year was the most successful yet experienced. Four plays were rehearsed, Mrs Moffett, of Dunedin, being engaged as tutor. The productions were very successful. Tho finances were in a healthy state. Office-bearers elected —Director, Mr Lockhart; treasurer, Mr G. M Lean; committee—Misses Aitchcson, Macdonald, Blackie. Hunter, and Mrs M'Ghce.
