[From Our Correspondent] PERSONAL. During last week Privates Joe Hanlc\ ami Jim Gray, with Aira'altuian IvnU Stewart, wore presented witli farewell gil'tfrom the Balclutha Patriotic Committee. On Friday night Aircraftman Stewart was entertained by the members of tho Bidclutha Fire Brigade, of which he had been secretary for some years. On Saturday night tho members of the Clutlia Football Club entertained Aircraftman Stewart ami Mr D. M'Feeters (who is joining the Air Force) at a farewell function. There was a large attendance, and during the evening Mr L. M’Lean (president) presented Mr M'Feeters with a fountain pen and Aircraftman Stewart with’a pair of military hairbrushes During the course of the Clutha Football Club’s social evening on Saturday night tho president (Mr L. M'Lean) presented Mr George Laing with the cup presented by an anonymous donor for the most improved player in the senior fifteen. He said that Hie. cup was to be an annual one. Mr Lning was accorded musical honours, as was (lie. donor. RAINFALL. The rainfall recorded in Balclutha for tinmonth of October was .94in. Tho only match played in South Olago on Saturday was the postpone;! fixture between Clutha and Owaka at Owaka. A heavy rain shower during the game spoiled Clutha’s chances, and they were beaten by 10 runs. Owaka batted first and made 135 runs. Latta made 31 (a 6 and a 4). A. Tabor also made 31 (two 6’s and a 4). Gray made 22 (two 4’s), Brownlie 20 (a 6 and two 4’s), and L. Tabor 14. Bowling for Clutha A. M'Donald took four wickets for 21 runs, B. Hill three for 25, A. 'The first round of fixtures is now completed, and next Saturday Balclutha will play Kaitangata at Balclutha and Milton will play Owaka at Owaka. ST. JOHN AMBULANCE. The first competition and annual inspection held by the St. John Ambulance Association in South Otago was supervised by District OiKccr B. V. Hughes at Balclutha ou Saturday. The event was conducted on tho motor camp grounds, the surroundings being ideal. Tue Balclutha divisions are to bo congratulated on the very efficient arrangements made. 'The roll call at the inspection was answered as follows;—Balclutha Nursing 27, Balclutha Ambulance 12, Milton Nursing 7, Kaitangata Ambulance 5, Kaitangata Nursing 6, Lovell’s Flab 2. Owaka 3, making a total of 60 on parade. There was quite a fair attendance of the public. 'The ambulance events for the cup donated by Mr C. J. Wood (Balclutha) open to all nursing and ambulance divisions in South Otago area was won by Balclutha Nursing Division (Miss B. Moodie, captain. Miss L. Sloan, L. Holland, and M. Collier). 'The results of tho competitions were;— Event 1 (first aid squad to double to patient and render first aid, transport as by judge, and oral first aid) Balclutha C, 166 points, 1; Balclutha A, 160 points, 2; Kaitangata, 152 points, 3; Balclutha 13. 145 points, 4. Event 2 (home nursing), for the cup donated by Miss Violet Stewart, Balclutha 1 bedmaking and sheet changing, working m pairs, roller bandaging, one test each; oral home nursing questions)—Kaitangata A, 97 points, 1; Kaitangata B, 94£ points, 2; Balclutha A, 89 points, 3; Balclutha B, 76 points, 4; Milton. 63 points, 5. Event 3 (squads to render first aid as required and remove patient on stretcher; —Balclutha C, 94 poinls, 1; Balclutha A, 89 points, 2; Kaitangata, 84 points. 3; Balclutha B, 73| points, 4. At night a very enjoyable dance was held in the Masonic Hall. During tho course of this function, Mr C, J. Wood, S.B.St.J., patron of the Balclutha Division, presented the cup donated by him for first aid work, and congratulated the team on its veryfine effort. Miss Moodie (captaili of the loam) replied. Miss V. A. Stewart then ( presented tho cup donated by her for home nursing to Mrs Kyle, captain of the Kaitangafca team. Short speeches were made by Districtofficer E. V. Hughes, Mr J. Clarkson (Kaitangata), and Mr H. T. Major (president of tho Balclutha Division), who expressed | thanks to all who had assisted in making j the competitions such a success. I

—Examination Results.— The following members of the Balchitlia Division of St. John Ambulance Association last week passed their examination in resuscitation. Mr Ken Evans, South Otago representative on the New Zealand Life Saving Society (Otago Centre), was the examiner. The passes are subject to confirmation by the Otago CentroMisses June Christie, Jean M'Grcgor, Dorothy Goodman, I.orna Sloan, Elspclli Dow, D Malheson, Jean Galbraith, Winifred Wells, Elizabeth Moodie, Messrs A.
