AUSTRALIAN SOCIETY
FINAL SOCIAL OF SEASON The Australian Trade Commissioner in New Zealand, Mr C. E. Critchley, was present on Saturday night at the Australian Society’s final social evening of the season. The president, Mr A. A. J’aape, introduced Mr Critchley, who congratulated the society on the success of its efforts during the past six years to promote the spirit of friendship between New Zealand and tho Commonwealth which had come about during the World War. This feeling had
grown during the past quarter of a century, and once again the Anzacs were shoulder to shoulder. He was pleased that tho women of tho society were making garments for refugees and the men on active service. The society had done and continued to do excellent work and at the same time sons of members wore doing their share in Britain and Egypt in the present crisis. During the evening the president pre. sentcd a hanging mirror to Airs 15. Clayton as a. token of the society’s appreciation of her services. Mr .) Ti. Newall was in charge of the function, which took tho form of a plain and fancy dress ball. Items were contributed by Mrs Kdinonds, Misses Stewart, and Master Edmonds, The prizes for fancy dress were won by Mrs A. Alloo, Miss Holland. Mr J. R. Sewell, and Air G. Edwards.
