OTAGO ASSOCIATION A meeting of tho executive committee of the Otago Hockey Association was held last evening. Mr T. H. Mulholland occupied the chair aud there were also present Messrs A. C. Barnes, K. Miller, E. J. Rennick, L. Sew Hoy, N. Colven, M. C. Paine, B. Sandorsou, A. Lotting, and A. J. Paterson. HATCH CUP. The Now Zealand Association advised that Otago’s late challenge to Canterbury for the Hatch Cup would bo accepted if Canterbury approved. Tho Chairman said negotiations were being made for the playing of the game on September 23. The letter was received. CENTENNIAL TOURNAMENT. The New Zealand Association forwarded details of arrangements in connection with the Centennial tournament to bo held next year at Auckland. A bulletin issued by the Auckland Association was also read. The New Zealand Association stated that Otago and Southland had u harder task than other associations to finance tours to Auckland, and this would lie taken into consideration if it were eventually possible to give some financial assistance to associations. The Chairman said the first thing to do was to obtain an idea of the probable cost of sending one or more teams to Auckland. ... It was decided to institute inquiries along these lines, and further discussion was deferred till next meeting. CANTERBURY MATCH. The Hockey Umpires’ Association nominated Messrs T. N. Mulholland, H, Sew Hoy, Dr Monheimcr, and Mr P. Paterson as umpires for the senior and junior matches with Canterbury next Saturday. Messrs Sew Hoy and Paterson were nominated in case Canterbury did not bring umpires. It was decided that the matches should be played at the Oval if possible, but if necessary they be transferred to Tonga Park. NORTH OTAGO. North Otago advised that it would accept September 16 as the date for the return match with Otago at Dunedin, The sub-association was granted permission to arrange several representative fixtures. FIVE-A-SIDE TOURNAMENT. The South Canterbury Association invited entries for a five-a-side tournament to be held at Timaru on September 16. The letter was received. SENIOR COMPETITION. As a result of Saturday’s, games, the Chairman reported, University was now leading with 20 points, with Old Boys and Albany equal with 16 points each He considered that the third round should be abandoned and a knock-out competition played instead. Something would have to be done to keep interest alive. , Mr Botting moved that a knock-out competition be commenced on Saturday week, entries to close on August 28. The, motion was carried. SECOND GRADE. It was reported that the first round of the Second Grade competition had been completed, Technical Old Boys (20 points) leading University C (lo P °There was not time, the Chairman said, to play another round. It was decided to close the competition and arrange a knock-out competitlon’ PRIMARY SCHOOLS. The primary schools A grade competition, it was reported, had been completed with Forbury in the lead. In the 13 Grade, Anderson’s Bay and Mornington were equal and these two teams were to play off. SECONDARY SCHOOLS TOURNEY [Per United Press Association.] WANGANUI, August 21. The New Zealand secondary schools hockey tournament commenced to-day in fine, but overcast weather. Tho play was of a high standard. Results: — Stratford Technical High School beat Mount Albert Grammar by 3 goals to 2. Auckland Grammar School beat Gisborne High School by 8 goals to 2. Wanganui Technical College beat Palmerston North High School by 6 goals to 3. . Wellington College beat Wairarapa College by 1 goal to nil. Mount Albert Grammar beat Uisborne High School by goals to 1. Auckland Grammar beat Stratford Technical Higli School by 2 goals to 1.
