TIDE INVADES FEEDER TUNNEL
POWER BREAK IN WELLINGTON SEVERAL TRAMS STRANDED [Pee United Press Association.] WELLINGTON, July 4. An extraordinary succession of high tides in Wellington Harbour resulted in considerable interruption of power supply in the mid-city area. Last night several of the traracars were unable to get back from their late trips to the barns owing to the power failure. This morning, at about 10 o’clock, the tide was again exceptionally high, and the water again invaded a tunnel carrying feeder lines to the main city sub-station and waterfront. By the use of alternative circuits the trouble was minimised, and the tram service kept to normal, but there were curious effects in many city buildings, where one section of the building would be lit and supplied with power while another part was in darkness and without power. It was hoped to restore all services during tho day.
