ST. GLAIR CARNIVAL
TO-NIGHT AND TO-MORROW NIGHT Over three thousand people attended the annual carnival of the St, Clair Improvement Association again last night, and till a late hour brisk business was done at the various games, stalls, and amusement devices. The festoons of coloured lights and decorations were again very effective, and the brilliant spectacle of the gleam of floodlights and a searchlight on the breakers was much admired. Keen interest was displayed in the first pushball 44 championship of White Island,” the St. Kilda team beating the St. Clair representatives by 1 goal to 0, and hundreds of people watched the exhibition of life saving in the floodlit breakers. In the 44 Miss St. Clair ” competition 44 Miss H. 8.” was last night slightly in tho lead from the other competitors, “ Miss Planet ” and 44 Miss Wax Vesta.” A groat deal of interest is being taken in this competition, and it is anticipated that many more votes will be recorded for the three candidates before the carnival is concluded. The carnival is a well-staged one, with attractions for young and old, and large attendances are expected to-night and to-morrow afternoon and night.
