The death has occured of Sir Arthur Trethowan, M.L.C., director of the Farmers and Graziers’ Co-operative Company Ltd., and chairman, of the New South Wales Country Party. MR D. I. DAVIES. M.P. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, November 26, (Received November 27, at 10 a.m.)' The - death has occurred of Mr D. L. Davies, member of Parliament for Pontypridd, who was one of the founders of the South Wales Miners’ Federation, and was regarded as an authority on mining matters, particularly on questions affecting the safety qf miners. Miss Lilian Baylis, whose death was reported yesterday, made in 1914 the boldest experiment in theatrical history. As manager of the “ Old Vic ’ Theatre, against the advice of every London manager consulted, she essayed what was regarded as the impossible task, in the conditions and at the low prices charged, of producing Shakespeare permanently throughout tha long annual season. Since then there have been performed at the Old Vic ” under her direction all the works in the First Folio of Shahespeare, with the addition of ‘ Pericles, • a feat which has never been equalled in the history of the stage, and this within a period of nine seasons.
