OBITUARY
NR ANDREW COLLINS [Per United Press Association.] WELLINGTON, November 12. The death occurred at the age of 89 of Mr Andrew Collins, • who has been 1 described as “ the father of trade* unionism in New Zealand.” Mr Collins gave 45 years’ service to the Labour movement up to his retirement in 1930. About 1875 he _ and others: formed a Bread Bakers’ Union, the first union in the Dominion. In 1898 Mr Collins was the first Labour representative! from New Zealand to attend a Labour congress in England. In New Zealand the deceased did extensive work in organising unions.
