Mr E. N. Stewart left this morninjj for Wanganui. Mr G. R. Herron, chairman of the| Awards Committee of the South Island! Dairy Association, left this morning for Auckland to attend a sitting of the Arbitration Court in connections with the application of the dairy factory employees for a Dominion award* Mr W. Bagrie, president of the Otago and Southland Cheese Factory Managers’ Union, also left for Auckland to attend the sitting of the court. Sir Percy Sargood has returned from a. visit to Australia.
The General Assembly of the Presbyterian Church last evening reappointed Dr J. D. Salmond director of youth work for a further seven years at as salary of £450 and £IOO house allowance. At a special meeting of the Geraldine County Council on Wednesday Mri John R. Hawcridge, A.M.1.C.E., assistant engineer to the Southland County Council, was appointed engineer to the Geraldine County. Mi? Hawcridge is a native of Dunedin and commenced his engineering career aa a cadet in the office of'Mr F. J. Williams, of this city. Miss Joan M'Gregor, who has been for the last 30 years a member of the staff of the Ramabai Mukti Mission to the Child Widows of India, has justi completed her tour of the _ Dominion* During the course of her journeyinga she came into touch with many people! who have been earnest supporters of this mission for long years, and has helped to awaken fresh interest in various centres. Miss M'Gregor left yesterday on. her return journey to India* She will spend a few weeks in Australia, thence proceeding direct to( India.
Mr John Hunter Robertson, of thai Otago Harbour Board, who recently obtained his third engineer’s steam and first class . oil Board_ of Trade certificates, has been appointed a junior engineer on the engine room 'staff of the R.M.S.
