UNEMPLOYED CARPENTERS
SOME RELIEF FROM HOUSING SCHEME THE TRAVEL FOR WORK PROBLEM [Per United Press Association.] WELLINGTON, August 9. Mr Moulton, secretary of the Carpenters and Joiners’ Union, stated today that there is a little unemployment among carpenters. The _ Government housing scheme is relieving the position, but there still remains the difficulty of a number of married men having to travel to secure work, bringing the problem to these of keeping two homes going. Portion of the answers to 10,000 questionnaires he sent out showed an annual wage for tradesmen of from £152 to £lB2, and average rental of 30s, leaving little for food and clothing.
