FREIGHT CHARGES MORE THAN DOUBLER F. 0.8. PRICES UP 30 PER GENT. [Per United Press Association.] AUCKLAND, August 9. “ Freights are two and a-half times greater than a year ago, while f.o.b. prices have advanced from 25 to oO per cent.,” said Mr R. T. Vanderfield, managing director of a leading timber firm of Sydney who is travelling to Vancouver by the Aorangi to investigate the problems connected with the carriage of timber from the Pacific Coast of America to Australia. “ Some shippers have not stood up to their contracts,” he said, “ and failure to deliver is a serious matter. One of the reasons for high freights is the use of tramp steamers for the carriage of scrap metal from America to Japan. Last year the shipments exceeded one million ton's.”
