TO THB EDITOR. Sir, —lu last night’s ‘ Star ’ ap* peared a letter containing a most astonishing statement—viz., “ Tha man in the street knows full well that' the hotels on Saturday, and Sunday, too, had a special dispensation, and ‘ open slather ’ was the order of the day.” Who has power to grant this dispensation? 1 have always understood that the Trade wields a great deal of power, but it never occurred to me that it was strong enough to obtain a dispensation setting aside the laws of the land.—l am, etc., - August 6.
