THE DUCHESS OF WINDSOR

UNFOUNDED RUMOURS DUKE DEEPLY KURT Press Association —By Telegraph Copyright LONDON, August 5. (Received August 6, at 12.20 p.m.) “ The Duchess of Windsor never had any of Queen Alexandra’s jewels,” states a correspondent of the London 1 Star,’ for whose reliability the ‘ Star ’ vouches. The article quotes Helena Normanton (well-known woman barrister), who visited the Duchess of Windsor before the wedding, as saying with the fullest approval of the then Mrs Warfield: “ The Duke of Windsor never at any time inherited any jewellery of the Royal Family. Mrs Warfield has never been in possession of any of tho jewellery ever owned by Queen Alexandra.”

The article deals with rumours emanating from the French Press that the Duchess lent a ready ear to Nazi propaganda which apparently originated in an unfounded rumour that she was a member of Herr von Ribbentrop’s circle, regarding which Mrs Warfield told Helena Noimanton that she was only in Herr von Ribbentrop’s company twice at.receptions. She was never alone with him, and never had more than a few words of small talk. “ I took no interest in politics,” she said.

The article says the Duke of Windsor so far has made no answer to his traducers, but his friends know how deeply he has been wounded by slanderous tongues. It hurt and dismayed him to find how widespread had been the circulation of most fantastic rumours about the Duchess and himself.
