APARTMENT MURDER

. MAN CONFESSES TO POLICE Prtss Association—By Telegraph—Copyright CHICAGO.* June 27. • (Received June 28, at 8 a.m.) Irwin entered a newspaper office, and announced his identity. The police were summoned, whereupon he surrendered, and confessed readily. He was pale and tired, and said his conscience was troubling him. He insisted that he had not wanted to kill the model and her mother, but only Ethel, the model’s sister. He explained that he was forced to kill the others, because they came home while he was awaiting Ethel. He said the murders occurred in the follow, ing order:—Mrs Gedeon, Veronica, and Byrne. Irwin shrieked _hysterically at times during the narrative, but was never incoherent. He expressed amusement at tho fact that the New York police were unable to find him. [Mrs Mary Gedeon (aged 54), her daughter Veronica (aged 20), and a tenant of a room, Frank Byrnes (aged 35), were mysteriously murdered in a fourth floor apartment on April 1. (The women were beaten and _ strangled, while Byrnes was stabbed sis times in the head and face with an ice pick or stiletto. The mother’s body, partially clothed, was lying on the floor beside a bed on which was the nude body of the daughter. Byrnes was on the floor m another bedroom. The clothing of the women was torn and scattered. A modical examiner said that the mother had been criminally assaulted, but the daughter apparently had not. Ihe police are seeking a Sculptor named Robert Irwin, a former boarder at the Gedeon household; Irwin was formerlj an inmate of an insane aslynm.j
