■—Ministerial.— The Hon. F. Langstone, Minister of Lands, in the course of an official visit to the South Island, will arrive at Dunedin at 1 p.m. on Friday, April 30, and during the afternoon of that day will visit the small farm settlement on Otago Peninsula. In the evening the Minister will receive deputations. He leaves at 9 a.m. the following morning for the north.

Major J. R. Kirk, of Wellington, arrived from the north yesterday on a brief visit to Dunedin. Mr J. Waters returned yesterday from Wellington. Mr Trevor Lane, editor of the Radio Record,’ arrived last night and left again by the second express this morning for Christchurch. Mr W. B. Steel travelled to Oamaru by the first express to-day on friendly society business. Mr S. Doyle, general bus manager. New Zealand Railways, went north by the express to-day. Mr F. J. Williams returned yesterday from Wellington. Mr M. R. Holgate left by the express to-day on his way back to Malaya. At the meeting of the Otago Hospital Board last night advice was received from the Hospital Boards’ Association of New Zealand of the death of Mr J. K, Hornblow, chairman of the Palmerston North Hospital (Board. A motion of sympathy with the relatives was carried.

M. Charles Mario Widor, the worldfamous organist and composer, died recently in Paris at the age of 93. M, Widor was appointed organist at St. Sulpice, Paris, in 1871, and held the position until three years ago. Two members of the Dunedin Amenities Society, Messrs G. Simpson and JS. Thomson, were congratulated by members of the society last evening upon winning the Loder Cup, which is awarded annually for any service which, in the_ opinion of the judges, is mest meritorious in furthering the wishes of the donor, Mr Gerald W. _E. Loder, president of the Royal English Arboricultural_ Society, who has had the following inscription placed on the cup:—“ Offered to lovers of Nature in. - 'New Zealand to encourage the protection and cultivation of the incomparable flora of the Dominion. ” The chairman (Mr Crosby Morris) said that the competition had been of great interest to the society, and _it was very gratifying that two of its members should have carried off this award.

Before commencing the meeting of the Otago Centre of the Piping and Dancing Association last evening the president (Mr Albert Wheeler) referred to the severe loss the Scottish’ community had suffered through the death of Mr J. N. Fraser, late president of the Scottish Society. Mr Wheeler stated that Mr Fraser was always a good friend of the association and had. at all times worked hard for the good of all that pertained to Scottish affairs.
