MEAT PRICES NOT CHANGING OATMEAL INCREASES £3 A TON Although there is apparent a steady upward trend in the prices of _ commodities, with a consequent strain on the housewife’s expenditure on food and other necessities, the cost of _ meat, with the exception of bacon,, is not showing any sign of rising. Several city meat suppliers told a reporter this morning that there is no danger of meat prices increasing; in fact,' some are working on the principle of keeping down the costs of small goods, such as sausages and saveloys, so that breakfasts at least might be available to the public at a reasonable figure. Local grocers approached state that the price of oatmeal has been raised £3 a ton in sympathy with the reported increase in the north. At the_ present time the retail cost of oatmeal is 3d lb, but when stocks have to be renewed the price will probably go up id lb.
