CAVERSHAM HARRIERS
OPENING OF SEASON The Caversham Club’s opening run, held last Saturday from the Methodist Hall, Caversham, was a most successful due, and if keenness and numbers count, success this season seems assumed. Of the 45 runners who took part nine were new members. It was very pleasing to have a few words from Mr H. T. Bmmerson. who, owing to illness, has pot been able to be at the club' outings for some time Older members will kilow him as a hard worker for the Caversham Club and athletics In general. Before the run commenced
the president, Mr A. J. Holloway, made a presentation to the eyer-popular secretary, Mr George Austin, who has just recently been married. , Another pleasing feature of the day was the interest that is still being taken by some of the older runners who have done good service to the club. Two who were out again were G. Sadler and C. F. Clark, and no doubt these two, with their wide experience, will be able to coach the younger runners during their weekly runs. . The run was neither long nor fast on Saturday, and therefore form cannot be judged at present, but with training operations already in full swing members will begin to sort themselves out. This week’s run will be held from Maori Hill, Where an enjoyable run is always assured. The club members are indebted to the captain, J. Cummings, for the very enjoyable tea after the run. These functions are always looked forward to, and always help to create good-fellowship amongst the club members.
