BETTER DEMAND FOR ROUGHER LINES
THE WELLINGTON SALE [Prat Uurnsn Press Association.] WELLINGTON, February 19. At the Wellington wool sale the offering to-day was 30,283 bales, with a full bench of buyers present. From the outset it was apparent that finer wools were easier, but coarse and low qualities were in better demand. As. the sale progressed, it appeared that fine wools were IJd a pound down on January rates, and rougher wools about Jd a pound easier, but the latter brought comparatively more than super, lines. , Competition generally was keen, but at times it flagged. Th© unofficial range of prices early in the sale are:— Half-breds, 15Jd to 174 d. Fine cross-breds, 15$d to 16Jd. Medium cross-bred, 14Jd to 16Jd. Coarse cross-bred, 14d to 15|d. Lincoln, 15J to 16*d. Only a few merino were submitted, which made 16d to 17Jd. The demand for lambs’ wool was fairly keen, and prices ranged from 13d to 16d, and for super, lines up to 19d. ■ . • Pieces were in good demand at from lid to 14d; crutchings at' 9Jd to 13|d. A few lots were passed in with prospects of subsequent realisation. The buying was well distributed.
