COLD NIGHT TEMPEMTURES The following weather report was issued at noon by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, covering the southern districts: Dunedin, Port Chalmers* Tapanui, Winton, Invercargill, Riverton, Orepuki, Bluff, Halfmoon Bay:—* An anti-cyclone of .considerable intensity is moving on to the Dominion, the highest pressure being west of the South Island. Forecast: Moderate to fresh, but decreasing, south-westerly winds. Weather fine, cold night temperatures with some frosts, but warmer to-morrow. Seas rough, but moderating. FURTHER RAINS. Despite a temporary improvement towards noon yesterday, the fickle conditions of the past fortnight were again in evidence during the afternoon and evening, sharp and heavy showers combining with a strong and gusty south-westerly wind to make the weather exceedingly unpleasant. Hail and. sleet storms made their appearance occasionally, temperatures dropping considerably. This morning broke fine, but with the sky heavily overcast rain appeared imminent, and showers _ commenced about 11 o’clock. Promise of further falls during the afternoon was given at noon, though barometric pressure was rising at 30.1 in. Temperatures at this time were 61.5 deg and 50.5 deg maximum and minimum respectively, as compared with SOdeg and 46deg yesterday. Over a 24-hour period on Thursday the rainfall was ,12in, and temperature registrations 53.3 deg and 41deg. For the duration of the rains, 4.23 m has been recorded. The wind to-day evinced a tendency to swing from a south-westerly to a westerly direction.
