STAVELEY CRASH
PLANE FALLS INTO GRAVEL PIT [Per United Press Association.] ASHBURTON, February 13. Further details of the aeroplane crash at Staveley (reported elsewhere in this issue) show that Kilian was taking Austin up to photograph the farm. The plane, in the take-off, cleared a fence, then entered a down draught, striking a pile of shingle and falling into a gravel pit. The_ plane broke into two, the engine falling to the bottom of the pit. Oil round the engine caught fire, but the water at the bottom of the pit quickly extinguished the flames._ Men working nearby helped the pilot to extricate Austin, _ whose wound necessitated several stitches.
