ATTEMPTED BURGLARY
TWO MEN CONVICTED [Pee United Press Association.] AUCKLAND, February 13. After a retirement of one hour the jury reutrned a verdict of guilty on all counts in the Supreme Court case in which Clement Robert Lawson and George Frederick Murphy were charged with breaking and - entering by night the Farmers’ Trading Company’s shop at Pokeno with intent to a crime, and with having housebreaking instruments in their possession. Murphy was also charged with having gelignite in his possession. The defence was that the accused had called at the store for a legitimate purpose—the securing of petrol._ Accused’s counsel (Mr Sullivan) said that Lawson was wearing rubber gloves for driving, and Murphy had put on a pair as a protection againstacid when battery trouble was experienced. The acused were remanded for sentence.
