ST. JOHN AMBULANCE ASSOCIATION
MEETING OF EXECUTIVE A meeting of the of the St. John Ambulance Association was held last week. Mr J. Ash occupied the chair. . Opening the meeting, tho Chairman referred to the death of Miss E. M. Harbrow, Serving Sister of the Order, who had filled the office of corps secretary for a number of years, and moved that the sympathy of the association be extended to the relatives.
The thanks of the executive were extended to the many donors of money and goods, who from time to time expressed their appreciation of the work of the association. During the past two months donations were received from various quarters, including the following:—Dunedin Savings Bank trustees, who donated the sum of £2OO towards the purchase of a new ambulance, which is badly needed; the Otago Rugby Union, £24 8s 2d; the Austral Girton Club, which forwarded a parcel of goods to bo distributed by the district nurses; and the Otago Hospital Ladies’ Guild. The financial statement showed the income for the past two months as amounting to £6l4' 15s lOd, while the expenditure amounted to £582 9s Id. The ambulances answered 259 calls, travelling a total of 2,142 miles; 933 calls were paid by the district nurses to 47 patients in June and 48 in July; nine deaths occurred, and 23 new patients were visited. The hospital hostess had continued her service among the inmates of the hospital, and the services' of the Motor Circle of the Otago Women’s Club were willingly given to convalescents who were considerably helped by an outing into the country. Illustrated papers and books had been received from many quarters. It was stated that it was the desire of the executive to ; extend the educational work of the association, especially in country districts which had not the facilities ready at hand to. meet the needs in cases of accident. A representative of the association had been sent to-the Central Otago district to arrange for classes in first aid. and it was hoped that not only would classes be started, but that in the larger centres sub-centres of the association would be formed. The secretary reported that; classes, would be started at Roxburgh, Alexandra, Clyde, and Cromwell. '
The following were elected to hold office for the ensuing year:—Dr A. R. Falconer, re-elected chairman; Mr H. Harris, deputy-chairman; and Mr A. M'Hutcheon, treasurer.
