Last night the Port Chalmers Old Identities had a realistic ramble round the harbour prior to the arrival of the first settlement ships at the middle of last century. The Rev. I'. A. Pybus waved the fairy wand which carried his audience for the ramble round Otakou Harbour when t4e waterside townships were Maori kiangas, and such prominences as Pulling Point were known by native names which pronounced as sweetly as the bellbird’s note in the morning. The audience was impressed and thrilled, and Mr J. Jackson Purdie’s call for a vote of thanks to the speaker at the conclusion of the address was responded to by prolonged applause. “ I painted something for last vc-ar's academy.” ‘.‘Was it hung?” ‘‘Yes, near the entrance where everybody could see .it-”' “ Congratulations! What was it “ A hoard saving: ‘ Keep in the left." ”
