OBITUARY
MR W. A. LUCAS The death at his residence, Russell street, on Monday last of Mr William Arnold Lucas removed one who was respected and esteemed by everyone in the business community of Dunedin. H© was born here in 1865, and, with the exception of a few years spent in Australia, ho_ lived in Dunedin up to-the time of his death. He played football in his youth for the United Club, and ho was a foundation member of the Otago Bowling Club. He was best known, however, as manager of the Commercial Travellers and Warehousemen’s Association of Otago, a position ho held for 27 years, resigning about seven years ago. He was known and highly respected by commercial men from all parts of the world, especially by those from Australia and New Zealand. Many a young traveller - owed much to him for his advice and encouragement. As club manager he always ; upheld the dignity of the club, and was fair and considerate to all members and to the staff. He married a daughter of Mr Charles Bills, who predeceased him, and he leaves three daughters and three sons. The remains were cremated at the Anderson’s Bay 1 Cemetery yesterday afternoon, and the large attendance of mourners boro tribute to the respect in which Mr Lucas was held. , MR B. S, SOMMERVILLE [Per United • Press Association.] WELLINGTON. May 27. The death is announced of Mr B. S, Sommerville, a director of Messrs J, W. Wallace Company, merchants, Wellington. He joined'the firm in 1895. Ho took no active part, in public affairs, but ,for many years was a member of the Wellington Savage Club. MRS G. F. GAWITH MASTERTON, May 27. The death occurred to-day of Mrs O, F. Gawith, aged 82, a pioneer _of the district. Mrs Gawith, who arrived at Masterton as a child, was a daughter of the late Mr and Mrs B. P. Perry, of Penrose. ■_
