Mr C. Stanley Smith returned front Wellington yesterday. Advice has been received from Sydney of the death there of Mr John-Edmond, Donnelly, in his forty-third year. Mr Donnelly was on the staff of the head office of the National Insurance Conn pany of New Zealand Ltd. at Dunedini until about seven months, ago. His Honour Mr Justice Page (president of the Arbitration Court) and Messrs W. Cecil Prime and A. L. Monteith (assessors) will arrive from the north this evening. Mr W. A. Little, who has been a member of the reporting staff of the ‘ Evening Star ’ for the past seven years, left for the north this morning to take up a position on the staff of the ‘ New Zealand Herald,’ Auckland; Mr D. J. M'Gowan was unanimously; elected chairman of the Wellington Harbour Board at the annual meeting last night. Mr M'Gowan has been a member of the board for the past 13 years. Mr D. Wall, stationmaster at Fairlie, has been appointed to a similar position at Cromwell. Mr C. T. Whittleston, stationmaster at Cromwell, will replace Mr Wall at Fairlie. Feeling reference to Mr A. Gordon, barrister and solicitor, of Taumarunui, who met a tragic death on Mount Ruapehu last week, was made by the Bench and Bar at a gathering in' the Supreme Court, Hamilton, yesterday. Mr Justice Fair was on the bench, and associated with him Was Sir Alexander Herdman. Tributes to their late colleague were paid by various members of the legal profession, who referred to his tenacity of purpose and courage. Guests registered at the City Hotel include Mr R. A, Keenan (Auckland), Mr L. A. Quinn, Mr G. L. Johnstone (Wellington), Mr C. G. Tansey, Mr H, Benson (Christchurch), Mr J. L, M’Phail (North.Otago), Mr and Mrs J.. C. Bington (Invercargill), and Mrs A, Jopp (Mount Allan).
