FOXTON WOOL PACKS

11 THE BEST IN THE WORLD " GOVERNMENT'S PROTECTIVE MEASURE [From Our Pari.iamkntapy Reporter.} WELLINGTON, April 30. A suggestion made in the Legislative Council by Mr Masters that the .Foxtan waolpacks bad not boon officially approved by Bradford, led to an interesting statement by the Hon. M. lagan, Lender of tbo Council. It bad been proved, ho said, that the Foxton woolsacks were the best in tho world. It had to he remembered that they were manufactured under much better conditions than, the jute packs were in India. “ Already the Government has discovered flint certain jute interests are using Hie power of wealth, tho power that is always used by monopolists, to try and strangle young industries in the country they have been used to serving.” said Sir Fagan. “ Propaganda is being spread that the- Foxton packs are slightly inferior to the jute packs. I know 'they will not succeed, for steps will be taken to protect that little industry. Tests satisfy us that tho Foxton packs will stand up to any jute packs manufactured in any part of the world.” Official action in corroboration of Mr Fagan’s statement appeared later in tho ‘ Gazette,’ where an Ordcr-in-Council prohibits the importation of wool packs and wool pockets into the Dominion save with the consent of the Minister of Customs. Applications for imports must he first made to the Industries and Commerce Department.
