MONDAY'S PROFESSIONAL BOXING
One of the best fight attractions offered in Dunedin for a considerable time past will be presented at the Town Hall on Monday night when Don Stirling; will defend his New Zealand welterweight boxing title against “ Cyclone ” Johnny M‘Kay, of Gisborne. Both men are known as fast and willing fighters, possessed of considerable powers of punch, and the bout should lack nothing on the score of action. The men have met previously, Stirling scoring a close win on points, although the decision caused a good deni of controversy at the time. Stirling is well-known in Dunedin. having made a great impression here as an amateur, and as a protege of the illustrious Les Murray, ex-light-weight champion of New Zealand, ho has built up a fine reputation as a professional, having an undefeated record since leaving amateur ranks. He is a stylish boxer and a hard puncher, and being a colourful fighter, should please the crowd greatly. M‘Kay is'known as a rugged fighting man with a hefty wallop, and when those two start to mix it there should be plenty of incident. The match is undoubtedly one of the best available in the dominion at the present time, and support on the part of the public will do much to restore the boxing game in Dunedin. This is the Otago Boxing Association’s first programme of the new season, and in support of the main bout will be a number of attractive amateur preliminaries including a bout in which a member of the crew of H.M.S. Sussex will be engaged. Two rows of seats in the circle are being reserved lor members of the association and their lady friends. Full particulars are advertised.
