THE SAAR FORCE

WARM PRAISE BY COMMISSIONER ITALIAN GONTIK6ENT LEAVES FOR HOME (British Official Wireless.) i?re»« Asaosiitio*—Bj Telegraph—Copyright RUGBY, February 27. (Received February 28, at noon.) Warm praise for tbe services of the Saar international forces is contained in a letter circulated among members of the League of Nations, The letter, which is signed by Mr G. G. Knox, after expressing appreciation of the rapidity with which the troops were despatched, refers to the “ exemplary conduct and p&s-fect discipline ” observed by them. Not the slightest incident occurred between the international force and the Saar population, while complete harmony prevailed among the various contingents, thanks to the “ close and intelligent co-operation maintained between their commanders under the authority of the General Officer, Commanding-in-Chief.” The Italian contingent left Saarbrucken for home yesterday, after a ceremony in which Major-general Brind bade them farewell. A company of the East Lancashire Regiment formed a guard of honour on the station, and the British and Italian National Anthems were played. The administration of the Saar will be handed over to the German G-overn-ment on March 1 by the committee of three, which will - take over from the governing commission to-morrow. From then the German police will assume responsibility for maintaining order. . r
