BEDTIME, 9.30
“ALL SCHOOLGIRLS'* DISTASTE FOR HOMEWORK. LONDON, December 22. “ All schoolgirls should bo in bed by 9.30,” declares Miss C. A. Cross, 8.A.. head mistress of East Ham Grammar School for Girls. Miss Cross, who is retiring alter thirty years’ educational service in Fast Ham, is perturbed at the “ increasing distaste ” for homework, and for real concentrated effort in school hours.
She suggests to parents that, there are three causes: The lure of pictures and other amusements, which keep the schoolgirl occupied long after she should be in bed; increasing use ot Sunday as a day for outings, which sends her to school on Monday morning too tired to take a real interest in her work; and the continuous sound of wireless and gramophone, which engenders the habit of hearing without a corresponding mental 'effort.
