KINGSFORD SMITH’S PLANE
CERTIFICATE ISSUED Press Association —By Telegraph—Copyright NEW YORK, September 24. The Lockheed Aircraft Corporation informed the Australian Press Association that “ We cabled to Sir Charles Kingsford Smith as follows:—‘ Washington has advised the Australian Government that the structure of your machine is approved for 6,7001 b. Obtain final papers from your Government.’ ” THE AIRMAN'S COMMENT SYDNEY, September 25. (Received September 26, at 1 a.m.) Sir Charles Kingsford Smith states that the certificate somewhat restricts his fuel supply, and it may necessitate landing between the control points and cause delay in the air race. FORTH EH DELAY POSSIBLE. SYDNEY, September 26. (Received September 26, at 10.20 a.m.) Sir Charles Kingsford Smith said he intended leaving Sydney on Friday en route to England, but a message from Melbourne says that no official statement about reception of a cable message has been made by the Civil Aviation Department or the Defence Department. Although it is learned that information has been received from the United States, it is believed that the data now available to the Defence Department is not sufficient to permit a certificate of airworthiness being issued in Australia, thus it is doubtful whether official tests will be conducted enabling Sir Charles Kingsford Smith to leave on Friday.
