MISS HALL-JSNES [Per United Press Association.} .WELLINGTON, September 11.. The death occurred at Her home inE Wellington to-day of Miss Fanny HallJones, daughter of Sir William and Lady Hall-Jones. Miss Hall-Jones had been ill for several weeks. She was one of those who worked hard for others during the war period, and had many friends both in -New Zealand and iii the Old ‘ Country, where . she resided xvith her father during his period in London as High Commissioner for New; Zealand. KIRKNESS The death occurred at the residence of her daughter (Mrs Jefferson) on Thursday evening last, of a very respected resident of -Stirling in the person of Mrs Sarah Dun Kirkness (ne Parquhar). She was born in Ayrshire,Scotland, on February 9, 1852, and at twelve years of age sailed with her parents ”to New Zealand in the ship Andrew Jackson. They landed at Port Chalniers, and, travelling by bullock' wagon to Milton, they resided there for some time, and later removed to Warepa. In 1872 the deceased was married to Mr Simon Kirkness, and she afterwards went to Stirling, where they /were employed as a married couple by Mr J. C. Anderson. Leaving there they took a small holding of their own. Mrs Kirkness was predeceased by her husband twelve years ago. She - leaves' a family of -■ grown daughters and sons to mourn their loss. The funeral, which took place on Saturday at the Balclutha Cemetery, was largely attended. IfR W. He was a member of the Wairau River Board for forty-three years, of the Blenheim Borough Council almost continuously since 1903, of the Mai-lborough Power Board since its inception, and of the Blenheim Fire Brigade for well over fifty years. He commenced business as a tinsmith in a small shed in 1881, and died one of the principal businessmen of Marlborough and one of the largest property owners in Blenheim.
