FEALTY TO HITLER
CLERGY ODJECT TO OATH COUNCIL URGES REFUSAL. LONDON, August 28. Representing 7,000 out of 16,000 Evangelical pastors, the German Evangelical Church Council has called on dissidents and the Bishops of Bavaria and Wurtemburg to refuse to give the required oath of fealty to Hitler, states the Berlin correspondent of ‘ The Times.’ . The resisting pastors, while willing to take a political oath to Hitler, cannot conscientiously tolerate a religious oath. They feel that the Reichshishop, Dr Mueller, is using Hitler’s name to force them to submit to his regime. The matter will not become acute unless a date is fixed for the administration of the oath.
