NEW GUINEA GOLD
EXPLORING THE INTERIOR EXPEDITION LEAVING THIS MONTH Press Association —By Telegraph—Copyright SYDNEY, May 16. The expedition which is going to New Guinea at the end of this month, mainly in search of gold, will be headed by Captain A. J. Kendrick, a South African engineer and scientist, who is already familiar with most of the country to be explored. Other members include Messrs Gordon Coghill and K. Thompson. The latter, who is a mercantile marine officer, will be assistant navigator and field geologist. The expedition will be accompanied by three experienced miners and prospectors, who will act as general assistants. A cook and a ship hand will also be taken. An auxiliary schooner has been purchased and renamed the Voortrekker. Twenty native boys will bo signed on. The New Guinea areas to bo searched are described among the richest in mineral resources in the world. A close investigation will be made of the foothills of the Sir Arthur Gordon Ranges. The party, which expects to be absent for eighteen months, will encounter some hostile natives on the Kakori River, from which they will penetrate the interior.
