TUG FOULS LINER

(Received May 14, at 11 a.m.) While berthing the liner Albert Ballin, the tugboat Merkur fouled the bows and sank. The Captain and five of the crew were rescued. Later the tug reappeared floating bottom upwards. Tappings were heard in the hull, in which eight others were iniprisoned, including the cook’s, wife. The rescuers unsuccessfully tried to liberate them by meaiis of oxy-acety-lene burners. Hope has been abandoned.
