The leaders were:—Mitchell and E. Whitcombe (137), R. Whitcombe and Compson . (139), Padgham and Allis (141), King (142), Perry and C. Whjftcombe (143), Easterbrook and Haver/ (144), Lacey and Cotton (145). Others were Ray (147), Denny and Hodson (148), Dailey and Davies (last year’s winner, 149), Duncan (151), Seymour (153). A feature of to-day's play was that Mitchell, aged forty-eight, with 72 and 66, shared the leading place among those who qualified. Mitchell so far has had a wonderful season. Critics are of opinion that since he returned to hickory shafts he hits the ball more accurately than ever.
