WORKERS' FRIENDLY ASSOCIATION

The -weekly meeting was held on Monday, April 30. The president (Bro. T. C. Smith) presided over a large attendance of members. Three cases of distress were reported, and assistance was granted for a further period. Discussion was lengthy on the deputation which interviewed the member of the Unemployment Board (Air W. Bromley), and it was intended to co-operate with all associations, local M.P.s, Chamber of Commerce, etc., to combat the action of the Unemployment Board in forcing the unemployed to camps. The secretary was empowered to write to the City Council Public Works Committee to ask for particulars ro tenders for various contracts, with the intention to find work for its unemployed members. The executive was empowered to draw up a letter of authority for the secretary to produce to all business men and firms whilst on his circuit of interviews for situations for girls and youths over the age of sixteen, for whom a relief worker gets no allowance. . It is the wish of the association that persons having -work of any class to be done by contract or labour get in touch with the lion, secretary (1 Radnor street), and prices will he willingly given by competent tradesmen. The social report was endorsed, and the functions arc proving a success. The tramway bus is a success. The executive is to meet next Monday at 7 p.m., preceding the ordinary meeting at 8 p.m.
