The assertion that New Zealand's trade with foreign countries is out of balance by only .£SOO,UUO was made by the president of the Manufacturers’ Association (Mr J. A. C. Allum) in the course of a statement to-day. Fie said that exports to foreign countries direct in 1932 were £2,508,000 and 'exports to foreign countries via London £4.119,IHJI), making a total of £6,627.00(1 or £5,965.00!) sterling. Against this, New Zealand's imports from foreign countries were £6,486,000 sterling. New Zealand’s trade with Britain also was seen in a different light when allowance was made for exports to foreign countries via London.
