SYDNEY SALES i Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright. SYDNEY, February 5, The wool sales were resumed and 11,961 bales were, offered, 9,910 being sold, while 1,588 were privately disposed of. Compared with the closing January sales the market was generally unchanged. Rest descriptions of fleece were irregular, skirtings ruled very firm, and comebacks and cross-breds met a strong demand. Competition was principally from the Continental and Japanese sections, with limited support from Yorkshire. Greasy merino made 2Sd for twelve bales from Uralla. Messrs Murray. Roberts, and Co. Ltd. have received the following wool market, quotations from their London agents, dated the 2nd inst.: —6o-64 New Zealand merino yielding 48-per ! cent., none offering (opening rates of present series, 16d) ; 56’s yielding 64 per cent., 16}d (17d) ; sU’s yielding 70 per cent., 12(d (14d) ; 48-50’s mixed preparing and carding yielding 72 per cent. 10iv. GILLESPIE’S BEAC-H DREDGING The secretary of the Gillespie’s Beach Gold Dredging Company Ltd. reports that the wash-up for the week ended February 3 amounted to 38oz 2dwt for 100 hours’ dredging during opening out operations. The dredge is now working to a depth of only 12ft on a face of two chains. The, depth of ground at this point is 17ft. . 'GRAIN-AND PRODUCEMessrs Donald Reid and Co. Ltd. report as follows; Wheat. — Harvest is- general throughout the country. The fine weather being experienced now lias brought everything along wonderfully, and grain will be threshed in the Central within the next week or two. Milling rates have-been increased 2d per bushel all round to the farmers. Opening prices are as follows: Tuscan. 3s Gd; Hunter’s, 3s' 8d; Velvet, 3s lOd (sacks extra), f.o.b. main ports. Fowl wheat is always more or less inquired, for,-and-supplies are obtained ex store. Values range from 4s to 4s 6d per bushel (sacks extra). Oats.—Apart from a little forward selling, there is not much business being transacted. Actual oats have not yet appeared on the market, though Algerian and Duns should be offering very shortly now. It is anticipated that- there will be about the same quantity ayailable as last year. The oatmeal mills ' will be the best purchasers, and apart from this business there is not a big outlet for oats. Nominal values are as follows:—A grade Gartons, Is 9d; B grade Gartons. Is 6d (sacks extra), on truck, farmers’ railway sidings. Chaff.—-There is a shortage of chaff at present in Canterbury, and .prices have been increased. The local demand is mainly' supplied now from that quarter, and merchants have consequently had to increase prices also. Value to-day for good, bright oaten sheaf is £4 10s per ton (sacks extra), ex store. Dunedin. Potatoes.—Tb-o market is over supplied, and as the tubers are not yet ripe, consignments are inclined to deteriorate very quickly. £6 per lon is value for best qualify, ox store Merchants, are buying small quantities only, and business will.be of a negligible Character until the main crop is available.
