WAR DANGER IN PACIFIC
CHINESE OFFICIAL OPINION PREPARATIONS BY JAPAN Press Association —By Telegraph—Copyright. SINGAPORE, January 30. (Received January 31, at 9 a.m.) That Chinese official opinion is fully appreciative of Pacific war dangers is revealed in an interview by Dr W.,Yen, formerly Chinese delegate to Geneva, now of Moscow, who is returning to China.
Dr Yen declared that for two years the Imperial Government at Tokio had been continuously preparing., for war, “Expert observers declare that the next outbreak of hostilities will take place in the Pacific, with the United States and Japan in the leading roles, or perhaps Britain and Japan owing their scramble for markets in the East. In the circumstances there appears to be a probability of Britain combining with the United States against Japan. Tension in Manchuria on the eastern frontier of Soviet Russia is growing day by day. The continental programme of the Japanese militarists includes the rich oilfields in East Siberia, which Japan intends to own in order to be self-suffi-cient in oil supplies. The patience of Russian statesmen in the past two years is clearly indicated by the fact that they were not quite ready for anything serious.”
